About

Artist Biography

Tehyla Richman is a contemporary artist currently based in Princeton, NJ. She primarily works in oils with the occasional use of watercolor and acrylic. Her drawings and sketched are mainly mixed media. She received her Bachelor in Fine Arts from Mason Gross School of Arts with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Originally a portrait drawer, Richman has broadend her technique by incorporating her love for drawing people into her painting process as she converts many of her original sketches into large scale paintings. She draws inspiration from her Christian faith, interactions with local community members, and her mixed ethnic and racial background- each informing the color, composition, and narrative of her artwork.

Recent Thoughts:
I have been meaning to publish a website for too long…but alas, it is finnished. I much rather have spent this time starting new paintings at my studio but my future self will be very grateful for the time and effort put into this site. Currently, I am working on a series of family portraits as I’ve realized how devastating it would be to not have painted each of my siblings, along with my parents and husband (who I already painted) if anythinng were to happen to me. There are so many expectations I have for myself as a portrait painter about who I “should” be painting. So for now, I am painting those who I spent time with most easily and have no need to “meet” somewhere as a stranger before painting them.
